check the plug color, its should be dark tan with a little black on the electrode if its a new plug and its running right ( although we know its not), maybe get a spark tester at HF and see what its doing...could have weak spark on one or the other cylinder or both.

i had mine out today and it ran great all day, very good day except for when i took the rod holders out after boat was back on the trailer and proceded to clobber myself smack dab in the face. bloody lip and a few scratches on my cheek, wife was very happy i kept my composure. have you noticed an oil slick around the engine when your in the water? that to me would indicate possibly flooding out as you refer to it. are you sure your not starving for fuel and that is the reason for sputter and died. this sounds very similar to the problem i had with my motor and after replacing the pump element its been flawless.i didn't review all of the posts as to know if your engine has the pump element or not. pump element installed at 45 degree angle and 2 oclock 8 oclock position. i had an oil slick behind my boat even when the engine was not running as the pump element was torn and allowing fuel to constantly dump out. well good luck with your tinkering and keep posting if your having problems.

yeah i got the external, kinda wish i had the internal, well just tried to run it and it puts out an extream amount of oil in the barrel in really short time, it also was smoking pretty good considering i was 50:1 on the gas, yeah i guess i'll check the spark, but to me if it was an ignition problem it wouldn't of even ran as it did cause it didn't miss, except when i took a dump on me, but i believe that is from fouling on the plugs, its zapped me a few times when i've been messing with it and both plugs did, made my arm go crazy and tingley for a bit, i'm going to try and get a new diaphram for the impulse pump and if that don't solve the problem the only thing i can think of is to use it as an anchor. or sell for parts

she was happy i kept my composure and didn't let off a tirade of expletives for all the other people on the launch to witness. i really hate getting hit in the head and its even worse when you do it to yourself. lol, note to self leave the rod holders in place unless they have to come out. hey axeman good luck on finding parts for that pump i searched a lot of aftermarket catalogues and sites and came up empty. although we did come up with a different pulse pump that is a current part for todays tecumseh pulse pumps.35787 i believe is the current part number for you.
