The Lady and I were returning from a Dr. visit a couple days ago. For some reason she took off her 2 gold necklaces and layed them in her lap and dozed off for a bit. We live next to a marina, We both got out of the truck, her from the passenger side. I walked down to a boat, and she drove the truck home.

I'm sitting back enjoying a brew at our tiki hut, she walks in crying. Her necklaces appearantly landed in the parking lot. Not to be found. She lost sleep that night. The next day she put up some reward signs around the Marina, the Village Grocer, and the restaurant. Kimi is well loved around here and in no time we had all the boaters spreading the word. 1 Necklace in particular was given to her by her sons, and very expensive.

Two guys approached an older couple that walk thru our marina daily. We usually don't allow strangers walking thru but they seemed harmless. Our buddies questioned them about finding any jewlery and there was a reward. The couple asked what the reward was. Our buds told them $50. The couple described the necklaces, and for $100 they will be right back. Demanding the reward really PO'd my buds.

After a heated discussion where one of our buds stated he would kick some butt, and the other threatened to burn their house down, if the jewlery wasn't returned. Within 5 minutes they had the goods in their hands. The couple wisely declined the reward.

Several of us were sitting at the tiki when our buds returned her jewlery. We have some pretty tough charactors around here and when the tears of joy started flowing from Kimi.....we all followed.

Karma set in that day. You mess with one boater around here.....you mess with all of us!

A special thanks to Mark and Travis!

I imagine the next time the older couple will know better, keep their mouths shut, and just keep the stuff...Maybe the older couple are on a fixed income and are about to lose their home, and feel rich boaters can afford the reward, hell they offered it..........Hmmmmmmmmmmm

You are correct, Paul, there are two ways to look at this situation. I understand your thinking. But...in my book....that's a thief. They could have made an effort to find the owner in many ways. Any honest person would have contacted security. They apparently were going to keep their mouths shut.

Perhaps... or perhaps they WERE on a mission to find the owners.. Even after being asked, thet could have denied it.. Your buddies threatened to burn a older couples house down, and assault them because they were possibly gonna take a reward that was offered to them, before they even asked ??? And it was stated to be valuable jewelry besides... C'mon Skipper... Really...? This experience maybe just taught a few non boaters to hate boaters.. I D K..........................

Not really a kind thing to be jumping to negative judgements about the old folks thoughts and motives, guys. They returned the items that they found to the rightful owner once they knew who she was.

As for your friends, Sasto, they sound to me like the kind of true friends we all treasure when we have them. You are blessed.

The best reward a man can recieve is "Thank You"

No clue about the motive....JB!

This is a private marina. Nobody I know here is selfish. We give and not take. That said....

To have some 30 something yr olds....watching mine....(and others).... back...priceless!

"True Friends".....??? I think so!

That was nice Kimi got her jewlery back, but sort of a strong arm tactic from your friends though.

Sick of it!!!!!!! Let's just strike ethics and integrity from the lexicon. Then all will be justified.

Re: A Big Thanks To My Fellow Boaters

Purchased a rental home and part of the deal was an old floor safe that was just too heavy to move. The house was sold because both parents had passed away, as I was looking in the safe, I found a small box in the very back of it and when I opened it there was a gold watch and a wedding ring with some nice diamonds. The stuff really didn?t have any value to me, but when I called the kids up and let them know I had found the stuff, they were so happy they cried out loud. The stuff was thought to have been lost, decades ago, but it ended up back where it belonged. I enjoyed getting the items back to them as much as they enjoyed receiving them.

Glad to hear Kimi got her jewelry back. The way I read the story the couple had no intentions of returning until they found out there was a reward, then they demanded more money, I would have been PO'ed also, your buds did well as far as I am concerned. If the couple had planned on returning the jewelry they would have had it with them and when asked would have said yes we found it, can you take us to the person that lost it so we can return it.

Re: A Big Thanks To My Fellow Boaters

I knew when I posted this I would get some unwanted feedback, but I can handle it. First off my buds would have never done what they threatened to do. Anyone that knows me also knows I wouldn't do anything to harm anybody physically either.

These folks were trespassing. This marina is private property with over a dozen "No Trespassing" signs posted. I think you are correct, nlain. They had no intentions on making any effort to return a possession they aquired......while breaking the law.

To those that think my buds are thugs....I respect your opinions and you are welcome to them. But, for me, these honest, hard working, buds are the type I would like to have next to me in a fox hole. When the going gets tough, the tough get going!
