Is it possible to change the trim sensor by undoing the the gimbel housing but leaving the shaft bellows attached?

Can anyone tell me what size and kind of socket I need to remove my Y exaust pipeing from inner transum housing? The bolt heads look like a sproket. I am not using the y pipes so may as well pull them out and install cover. By the way can I make a cover from 1/4 inch thick flat aluminum stock? Will that seal it up or do I need the exact part?

Thanks

If you can machine the part properly, it might work but there is a possibility of causing corrosion problems if you use the wrong aluminum alloy. I'm not a metalurist so I can't tell you what the correct alloy is, but if the exact Merc part is cheap enough, it may be worth your while to just get it.

and 3/8 12 point sounds correct. Can't help you on the trim sender thing. I've never replaced one on an Alpha the correct way. Always cheated and soldered / shrink tubed the replacement on.
