Hello, folks.

I am going to be restoring a boat and motor for my father in-law. I am trying to gather as much info about the motor as possible. I'll tell you straight away I am completely ignorant in this area, but from reading a few post you seem to be a good group of folks to get info from.

here are a few pics, as far as I can tell, it is a 66 or 67? am I way off?

Look on the top of the port cylinder bank for as welch plug with the model and serial number - it's nickel-sized, convex and aluminum.

It looks like 1966: http://old-omc.de/e_1966/seite_06_07.jpg

well I looked for the welch tag... but there was an empty spot where it should have been.. it wasn't there.

I did however find a little plate on the mounting bracket under several layers of paint!

Model # 80693C

so it looks like it is a 66 80 HP after all. Now off to order a manual. There general consensus seems to be the Ken Cook books?

Ken Cook is the publisher; his price is list and highest for new reproductions. You can usually find new ones on Ebay for less.

BTW, "general consensus" is redundant.
