I have a Stingray 190 with a 3L. That is a very fine combination as long as you have the right prop. The 180 is a bit small, considering the other 2 you cited already.

Re: A boat i am interested in

Well took look at both boats and rode both of them. Came away liking the Stingray alittle better even though its a smaller boat and smaller engine. The sales guy said he would love to sell me the Baja but though it might be a better idea if i went with the 18 footer since its my first boat and upgrade if i want a larger boat/engine. The 2000 stingray is listed 6500 and the Baja is 7900.The stingray seemed to have all the power i need and while not the biggest boat maybe learning on something a little smaller is a good idea.I have been told this by 3 other people.
Plus being my first boat the sales guy said it MAY be easier to resell a smaller cheaper boat if i decide at the end of the summer that owning a boat isnt for me. Make sense to me. The guy seemed nice and didnt pressure me at all.

Said i need to get on the water for a season and learn how to boat and take care of a boat and if i think i want a larger one then move up.
My question is how hard is it to sell a boat privately and i asume trading in is not the best way to go if i did upgrade.

Any input would be appreciated.

A marine dealer telling you to buy a starter boat is like a real estate agent telling you to buy a starter house. In both cases, they make money off you every time you move up.

IMHO, I would buy the boat that you feel would meet your needs best. If you go in knowing up front that it will be too small, you are certain to wish you had something different.

If you sell the boat privately, you might break even, but if you trade it in on a different one, you will lose money.

Don't be afraid of a private owner. That is where you can make a very good buy.
If you want peace of mind, when you find the boat of your dreams, make your offer based on a survey.
You really need to do that, private or dealer.
You don't want to find later you have rot in the transom or on an I/O, the stringers.
This is a very expensive repair.
Buying an older boat from a dealer doesn't guarantee you won't have these problems.
A survey does.
A mechanical survey is different. That will offer piece of mind for the engine and outdrive in there is one.
Shop hard. Have your money in place when you make an offer. Make low ball offers and remember there are a lot of boats for sale.
Don't buy small if you know deep down you will want bigger. Every trade costs money and the first boat puts you in the drivers seat. After that you will have a trade in to worry about.
Don't waste that first buy on something you will not be satisfied with.
It is your best chance of a really great buy.
Take someone with you to keep your emotional feet on the ground. You will fall in love and maybe for the wrong reasons and overlook something important.
Make a list of what is important to you. Really important. Make sure your boat fullfills all these requirements. You might think it won't matter when you are starstruck but it will later on.
Again, make a low ball offer and don't be afraid to walk. Don't fall in love until the price is settled.

That is a sweet boat for sure TD! I can see where it would be a pita to fish out of though.I was looking at deck boats the other night.I came across a Hurricane brand boat. They look like a nice product near as i could tell. One had a electric trolling motor bow mounted.Looked like a good fish and fun combo boat.
