This was a pretty interesting story from The Sunday Wichita Eagle Newspaper a couple of weeks ago. A resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around in a strange way in a pond and when he went to investigate, it was a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's basketball which became stuck in its mouth. The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive but unable to because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball out but was unsuccessful.

That just made my day. If you move this to Fishing. I'll be  . Cause this is so fitting for this section.

That is hilarious! I've never seen anything like that.
But one question: Why did you not keep the fish and eat it
Catfish is delicious.

Is that one of those fancy anti-noodling devices?

That's funny. Never thought that catfish took a liking to ball.

Well, I guess that pretty much ends the debate about what catfish will and will not take... I wonder if the local Walmart sold out of 8" pink basketballs the next day.

I got a chuckle out this when I saw the story too. Along the lines of Brother Chris' post, that was a pretty big catfish for a pond this area. On the other hand, I think the Kansas Dept. of Wildlife and Parks has regulations on legal methods of taking fish. I'm not sure if "basketball trapping" is considered an approved method.

One final note, if the guy struggled to get the ball from the cat, shouldn't the ref have called a "jump ball"?
