A fishing pole weighs much less than 10 pounds. Just catch the small fish for awhile..

Glad you went before it burst. It gets real nasty if it bursts.

Glad you are okay, SS. I'm sure there are plenty of under 10Lb items in your boat which need polishing/repairing..

Boaters find a way ;)

Rest up and feel better.

This was my exact thought. Tell that friend of yours to be on his top game and work on your boss at hiring him permanently.

Glad you did the right thing and went in! Also very happy to see that your boss understands and isn't trying to guilt you in to attempting to work. In my mind that shows a lot of character on his part.

I had something similar happen, but it was an infection that caused me to end up with diabetic acidosis. For a week I thought the infection would go away with the antibiotics but it was just too bad. Finally my mom (worked at the hospital) talked me in to going because the pain was soooo bad... spent a week in ICU and another 3 days in a ward. Doc said if I would have went to bed that Friday night I would not have woken up Saturday.

Now I have an infected tattoo (new tat) and am on my last day of antibiotics... no symptoms of what I had before but guess where I'm going anyways? :p

Re: A Close Call for me Wednesday

Got up this morning and felt like I had been run over. After last years surgery on my knee, I never had any soreness to my chest and arm muscles, this time I do. I don't know why except maybe for using my upper body to raise and lower myself in bed vs using my stomach muscles. Being on these meds makes me feel like I'm in La La Land. I can't understand why some druggies love this stuff so much. I had my wife get the pain meds switched to a lesser strength. At least I don't feel like a flea infested dog scratching all the time.

And yes, I'm taking it real easy as I'm sooooo bored already.

My dog knows something is wrong with me. He has been beside me since I got home. My daughter brought two of my grandsons over and Keeper would put himself between me and them. First time I have ever seen him be so protective of me. I guess he feels better now that he is not the only one missing a body part or two :D

Re: A Close Call for me Wednesday

I found out why I had so much soreness in my chest. Apparently they pumped a gas into my gastro track through my esophagus. This is what caused so much discomfort. I finally got to expel the gas after 2 days and finally major relief.

Its been 5 days now and I'm still swollen quiet a bit around the area I was cut. He didn't do the laproscopic(sp) type, but the old style 1 cut type. He said that I would heal quicker with the old style. I sure hope so, as I have a lot to do to get my boat ready for the launch.

For those that has had this procedure done, how long did it take for the swelling to go down? Thanks........SS

Re: A Close Call for me Wednesday

I think the surgeon was just more comfortable performing the traditional 1 cut surgery because the healing is definitely not quicker. I had an inguinal hernia repaired the same way. The recovery is a b!tch and I was only in my late 20's. I have some advice. Kinda conflicting but bear with me: Don't just lay around. Make sure you get up and move around as much as possible. I didn't and ended up having back spasms as a result and that was horrible! But on the other hand do NOT overdo it with lifting and strenuous activity. Once I started feeling better I went out and mowed the lawn (I have a very hilly yard) and later on I lifted something I shouldn't have and felt a burning sensation in the incision area which I'm sure wasn't good. I've had off and on pain in that area ever since (years) which I guarantee was because of lifting something too soon. I even had it checked out by a different surgeon because I thought I'd re-herniated myself. I hadn't. But that surgeon had no idea why the first one did the surgery in the traditional style instead of lapro which is why I say yours may have just been more comfortable with that method.

Re: A Close Call for me Wednesday

I had mine out when I was 16. As soon as I started to read your OP I knew exactly what the problem was. My symptoms were identical to yours, but mine did burst on the way out and required me to have a second surgery. Pretty scary to know that at 16 years old I could have lost my life.

Good thing is though, you can't have this problem again! Once its out, it's gone! LOL

Re: A Close Call for me Wednesday

Oh I'm taking it easy alright. Boss called today and said I can't come back until the Doc completely releases me for full duty. Doc said I could go back with a 10 lb limit, but nothing on my job is that light of duty. So to prevent any possible law suits of me working and getting hurt, I'm off the rest of this week and next week no matter what the doc says.

I'm sooooo bummmmed. I can't see how some people can just stay home and do nothing. Its driving me nuts. One of the things that erks me is I've got to give up one of my weeks of vacation or not get paid. Its possible to pick up hours to make up, but BOATING season is gonna be here real soon.

At least I've got my son in law cleaning up the boat getting her ready. Not much to do.

gonfishin, if yer comin up to do some gator huntin, I can at least watch you haul one in if yer needin a spectator :D

I feel your pain. I had Surgery a couple of weeks ago and am stuck at home for another week. I can only lift 15 to 20 lbs. My job requires more heavy lifting than that. Oh well, misery loves company :D
