OK, I've been having problems with with my 1977 85 hp Johnson.. running lean. Got a manual and I rebuilt the carbs installed new plugs and de-carbed the motor...was going to do a link and synch and having problems now and cant do one until I get these 2 other problems fixed...
1) The engine will turn over but will not start....I can spray some deep creep into the cylinders and it fires right up and runs... and it will rest if the day.. but I can let it sit over night it will not start.. as soon as I spray a squirt of deep creep it fires and runs. all fuel hoses are new the primer bulb works and the fuel pump is working. a good constant stream, the carbs are getting fuel and its not leaking out of the bowls of the carbs. its like the gas isn't getting back into the cylinders.

. next problem discovered when I tried to see if I had enough spark into spark plugs to ignite the fuel in the cylinders.

2) When looking at the back of the motor the bottom starboard cylinder is not getting any spark, all the other 3 has good blue spark and jumps a 1/4 inch. I can pull the spark plug wire off when it's running and it doesnt change the pitch of the motor but the other 3 will.

Yes they are.,.,
I have tried the key choke and the manual...This is going to sound weird...I can pump the warm up throttle and it helps:/

check compression?,
is the fuel bulb getting firm when you pump it?
do you here any signs of an air leak while pumping the bulb?

Re: A couple more problems

I am going to do a compression check . Have not done that yet. I do need to get base line numbers on that. but at least it fired before I did the rebuild on the carbs but it was getting too much gas in the cylinders

is the fuel bulb getting firm when you pump it?

Yes the bulb stays firm. Only one squeeze and is hard after letting it set all night
do you here any signs of an air leak while pumping the bulb?
Nope, NO air leaks, But I can hear the carb bowls filling up.
Thanks,
Jason

XTRAHAM,
I want to thank you for your response... I feel like a complete idiot. You asked me
chokes activating (completely closing) ?
They were activating but they were not completely closing no they were not, you could look from the control box and it seemed that way but they were not. I made a 4 second adjustment and it fired right up. I'm sorry for wasting your time .
Thank you.
