OK, I really appreciate all the help I have gotten this summer. I was a stoopid noobie in June, now I am just a noobie.

I live in a remote area, know no other boaters and everything I know is self taught or comes from this board.

Here are my questions I Hvae picked up from other threads.

I have a 94 Evinrude 90hp V4

Horn: the horn that goes off when I turn the key. Am I correct that the same horn will go off if I overheat??

Oil: Motor is oil injected. I heard somebody mention a No Oil horn. Does my motor have a signal indicating it is not getting oil?

Re: A Couple of Questions

Yes,the same alarm that you hear is the one that sounds in case of a system detected malfunction.Your alarm circuit is as follows: When the key is initially turned to the 'on' position a short chirp verifies that the alarm circuit is operable.Short tones every 40 or so seconds signifies low oil level in the reservoir.Rapid short tones signifies a 'no oil' condition from the vro unit.A constant alarm and engine will operate at any speed signifies a fuel restriction from the vro unit, and a constant tone and engine rpms are electronically limited(via the s.l.o.w. system) to 2500 rpm or so,signifies an overheat condition.Note: in some cases a fuel restriction will limit the rpms as well simply because of starved fuel condition. That's when 163 degree thermo melt stiks and infra red temp guns come in handy for distinguishing the two.A feel check of the engine head covers will also help to verify an overheat.

Contact your local dealer ,and they can hook you up with an alarm identification sticker to place near the helm that will take the guess work out of identifying alarms while underway or at home.

Re: A Couple of Questions

Variable Ratio Oiling. The later units were changed to OMS or Oil Metering System(works basically the same). They deliver a near constant 50:1 ratio whereas the earlier vro units deliver anywhere from around 75-100:1 thru 50:1 ratio depending on engine rpms.
