Last night i did a decarb on my 64 evinrude did it with the motor in a tank . i used the seafoam spray can and choked it and out left it sit for about an hour. it was a little hard to start but when it fired up it turned the 55 gallons of water jet black. I shut if down and deacrbed it again (fresh water) same results. after the fourth time I gave up should i try it again or should i just run the boat for awhile and then do it.

If that didn't help do the portable fuel tank with a gallon of gas, seafoam and the correct oil mixture. It will smoke like a beast but will clean the fuel system.
Good luck!!

Re: a decarb ?

Like he said. I would take it for a hard wide open throttle run for a good 30 minutes or so. That is the absolute best way to decarb your engine.

Most people see a slight increase in performance after a decarb. Although, there are the few that do it and see a performance decrees. In those cases the build up was probably helping to seal the pistons, and actually helping with compression instead of hurting it. BUT, the poor engine maintenance was probably the deciding factor of those engines going bad to begin with. So, I think in your case you will probably see an increase in performance even if it is slight.
