1st question

I just received the pins for the bimini top. After installing, I wonder if the top can be open at full boat speed. It seems kinda - fragile??? any info about this?

2nd question:

While installing the transducer(sp), I had to drill 2 more holes in the transom for the screws. The old screw holes were not close. I also had to enlarge the hole where the wires go into the engine compartment to 3/4" (was 1/2"). I noticed that the wood cored out from the drill bit was moist in the lower holes where the transducer mounts but the wood above where the wires go into the engine compartment was dry. After finding this, a closer inspection under the engine gave a possible reason, look at the attached pics... Is this a normal transom to bildge connection? Or did the fiberglass not cover this area during manufacture? The day I bought the boat it was raining and the bildge had about 2 gallons of water in it. Is the water leeching into the wood from this area? Thanks in advance for any input!

when all 4 straps are down, its sturdy. they will stretch out in the sun though, so u will be making adjustments the first trip or two til it stays tight enough for ya. dont know about the bilge, handy oil drain tube there though it looks like.

Hey redone4x4,

What straps? The boat and/or bimini doesn't have any. Where do they attach?

Thanks for the reply on this.

heres a pic of mine. it has 4 black straps 1 from each corner of the top, that clip onto hardware that has to be installed on the boat. they run about 45 degrees fore and aft of the top. is yours like this or like the factory style that snaps on the windshield? even those have 2 straps to the stern as well. heres mine:

how old is the boat? it appears to be fairly new based on how clean it looks. it does appear that the transom did not get sealed properly. i would feel the area you had the picture of because that may be sealed if the inner layer of resin was clear. but i would check for other screws in the transom that may not be sealed.

Re: A few more questions, or HELP!

Hi,

Yes the boat is fairly new. I called Bayliner and talked to a person that said the wood in the transom is coated/sealed in fiberglass and that the outer coating was missing. He said the wood is treated so not to worry about it.

I just seem to be looking for problems I guess, and am a bit nervous about the purchase after the fact. The boat runs flawless, and I can't find anything wrong with it but this. The guy at Bayliner said "go enjoy the boat!". He did say to re-seal the hardware on the transom, which I will do this weekend.

Thanks for the reply.

Redone4x4, I attached a pic of the bimini top as it came w/boat. It feels a little flimsy, but I will try it saturday on the water, then add staps if needed.

Thanks.

oh damn!!! you have solid upright supports on that thing.....thats as good as they get right there, no straps. that thing will be fine, it will hold up and there wont be any adjustments on it either. the only thing i see on it, is the rear brace alot of people angle it to the stern more, to get more leverage supporting it, but it will be fine. you can move those later if they are adjustable, or if not leave em there. sweet lookin boat, now im jealous lol...
