A few questions...

Greetings,

Just found this forum, and have a few questions.

We recently bought a used 1997 Wellcraft Excel 23WA, with Evinrude 200. I've had a couple of inboard tournament ski boats, and several sail boats. This is our first "fishing boat". (It did not come with any owners manuals)

Would appreciate as much info as feasible:

1. Fuel capacity? (I put 70+ gallons in before my gas card reached it's transaction limit...)

2. Estimated approximate oil consumption? It's got a separate oil tank (VRO), how quickly will it need replenishing?

3. Head valve? It's got a marine toilet w/holding tank & macerator pump, but it's far different than the setup on our motorhome. I guess you can either pump it out or dump at sea? I don't see a valve to do this.

4. Batteries? It only has one, and I plan on installing two more, with one dedicated to starting, any ideas where they would typically be installed on this boat?

5. Anchor windlass. It's got a Maxwell 500 windlass. It dropped the anchor fine, but wouldn't get a solid grip on the chain/rope to pull it back up. The motor works well, but can you adjust the "grip", somehow? The motor turns fine, not loading up or anything like that. Just doesn't hold the line well; pulls it up a couple feet, then loses its grip on the line. Sometimes doesn't grab the line at all.

6. Anchor lock? Should I make something to hold the anchor up, versus having the windlass do it? Currently, a bungee is holding it up in the bow slot.

7. GPS. Got a nice Lowrance color gps/fishfinder. Only works when the engine is running. Won't power on otherwise. Any reason not to rewire it so it can be powered any time, regardless of ignition switch position or engine operation?

8. Alcohol stove fuel? Is it sold as such? Don't think I want to burn nice Scotch in the stove...

Thanks a bunch...

looks like fuel capacity is 99 gallons....I would estimate about a 50:1 oil burn ratio so a full tank of gas is going to use around 2 gallons (just an estimate) always keep a spare gallon of oil on board!

cant help you with too much of your other stuff. except maybe the GPS...I guess maybe someone wired it to the ignition to prevent from accidently leaving it on? with only one battery maybe it wasnt a horrible idea....no problem wiring direct or at least to an accessory switch on the dash.

Nice boat by the way!
