A good deal or not?

I can buy a 1975 merc 20hp with controls and electric start, long shaft that runs good for $550.00. I am thinking about that as a kicker for the 19'6" starcraft superfisherman I have that has a 135hp on it. I like the idea of a kicker because this boat goes to Canada twice a year and I get pretty far away from anyone. Also I will use it on lake Michigan as a troller. What do you think? Good deal?

why such a big motor. why not a 9.9hp ive seen them used on a 20cc and that boat was going for a 200mile trip to Europe and the it was just a kicker and was used as a main some times i think 20hp might be a bit too much

Sounds fair to me, but you might want to ask the Merc guys.

Normally I would concur. However, he's thinking about it for a backup as well. If that big boat ever breaks down in the boonies, which sounds like where he plans to take it, he'll be glad to have one a little bit bigger.

Seems a little big to me too for a 19' aluminum. I'd be interested in what the weight difference if between that 20 and a 9.9/15. If it's minimal then I'll shut up and you can go for it!
