A good trick. Recently we had a trailer come in to our shop that had some sort of glue spilled on the floor. The shipper had rejected the trailer because of it and we had to get rid of the glue. We hammered, scraped, cussed and stewed over how we were going to do it without pulling flooring up. Then a light went on!
One of our mechanics had the idea of simply using a router and a straight cutting bit. He set the bit to a minimum depth and routed away. (safety equipment applies) It took a fraction of the time it would have taken to replace the flooring. And the mechanic got a cookie from the boss.
It would work great on a boat deck where all you wanted to do is remove carpet glue. And it precise enough to prevent damaging anything. It takes a little time but it is simple and effective.
