Hi All,

I was planning on pulling my boat from the mooring field for the season today, however, I did not get a chance to do so. I'm a little concerned because the temp is supposed to go down to 32* tonight. The boat hasn't been run in a month so I'm not sure how much [salt] water could be in the block, but I know that saltwater freezes at 28*F.....Should I be as concerned as I am?

You should be alright. A Lot of boat owners here never take there boat out of the water and never have problems.

28 F is the air temp. Your engine will be much closer to the water temp.... as long as it's in the water.

You should have nothing to worry about, this early the water temp won't change much even with a dip into freezing temps for a night. I used to keep my boat in the water until mid December, when the Marina closed. Never had an issue. I can remember mornings with ice on the deck heading out. The motor used to be real finicky in that weather, but never a freezing problem.

If you got a bit colder for a longer period you might want to toss a 40W incandescent bulbed shop light (flourescent won't work) in the motor box to make a little heat. Doesn't take much to raise the temp in the box enough to keep things from freezing...
