hello out there,
I bought this older boat over the weekend,
1978 19ft fibberglass steury,outboard,
the motor covers been painted so theres no stickers but theres a plate on the cover and it saids 112-spl,(mod#j112tsxers,ser#G 03587895)
The controls are evenrude so i asume the motor is to,can you tell me if thats the motor those boats used at the time? it seems a little small for the boat,Ive started it up on ears and a hose and it sounds good, but i wont be taking her out for a little while, needs a little TLC
Is there a time lemit on running the motor through those flush things? would the motor get hot?
well thanks in advance. :)

Hey fishman66...

The model number indicates a Johnson 112hp Special, 1994. Don't think these were around when your boat was built. Take a look around your boat and see if you can find a sticker stating the load capacity and HP capacity of the boat. There should be one in it somewhere unless someone removed it. You can run the motor on motor flushers as long as you don't over rev the engine. I wouldn't go above 2k rpms. and keep it between 1k and 1.5krpms. Flushers are good for winterizing the rig and getting a before launch start. Motor shoudn't get hot unless there's a problem in the cooling system.

Jim

Howdy FishMan66:

Your motor is a 1994 Johnson 112 Horespower according to your model number...

Johnson and Evinrude are both manufactured by OMC (now Bombarder), so your Evinrude controls will do just fine...

No time limit running the muffs, just keep ample supply of water running and keep the RPM's down... :)

As for your HP range, you're on the low end but I think you'll be fine with 112 hp... :)

FISHMAN66,

Be CAREFUL running that "crossflow" V-4 on the muffs forever.

The top (right) starboard cylinder can get hot before you notice. Always run the engine with the cover off and have someone posted near the hot horn-in the control box.

"Great Find"! A nice newer generation OMC on a great hull.

The 112 is A "bullet proof" engine, if cared for.
