Re: A little more prop help please

Pitch matters a great deal. Just as design - prop and hull. Set up plays a major role. If you've tried different pitches with no change in performance we'd look at set up (including motor health & potiential) first and then hull design.

I've seen several crossflows like yours that would only turn a certian rpm. Even with pitches 2-3" different. Turned out to be a motor issue. Seen cases where we switched 4" in pitch with very little change and it turned out to be a hull issue.

good point...i have a 23", 21" and 19" pitch props, and they all seem to perform just about the same. The 23 drops my RPMs a little, but as far as performance I have seen none....The boat seems fine, hull is in perfect shape. I have a hydrofoil on my motor, maybe that shades the differences a little?

Yes, a fin can cause issues if the motor set up doesn't take that into account. The fin is a tool that allows the set up to be changed to gain efficiency. Set up incorrectly it can indeed hurt performance.

I run a 21, 22, 23 and a 24 for my flats boat. Each one is very different, each one has a specific purpose. I can see the difference on the tach, GPS and Flow Scan. If I ever get around to getting an Ultima 4 I expect things to be different again.
