A little side to side play between bellhousing and gimble ring. Why ! Alpha 1

Hey last year I replaced all bellows, shift cable, water hose, put in updated shift shaft. Today I noticed a little bit of side to side play betwn Bell Hsng and Gimble ring. Last yr had the hinge pins out the assembly looked mint to me.I used the old sythane washers and torqued the hinge pins to 60 ft lbs. Its only side to side movement,maybe 1/10th of an inch. No up and down that I can tell. Any body else ever notice this, any thoughts ? Hinge pins were tight today. Transom SN A501425 Drive OA597807 Thanks for reading...

on my older mercruiser, the gimbal ring has splines on the top pin, I was advised to replace the gimbal ring with a square top pin, that involved pulling the motor out to get at 1 nut., if those splive give out while underway, youll be in the bank.

Thx , but its not the top pin, its the side hinges Phew!

Ya I put 'er back together I just dont see what would cause that issue, It wasnt very extreme. Heck its 20 +yrs old

When is the last time you retorqued the gimbal ring clamping screws to 55 foot pounds? If it is more than one year you are overdue.

glad ya gotter done, it was quite a job replacing the gimbal ring.

I didnt remove or replace the gimble ring. I DID remove the bell housing from it . But I didn't tear into the top or bottom gimble ring bearing...

When is the last time you retorqued the gimbal ring clamping screws to 55 foot pounds? If it is more than one year you are overdue.

Last year ... and today, put torque wrench on, still at 55 lbs, hinge pins at 60... thx
