While spending some time looking at all the simple questions today, I had to reminis (SP) on all the things I have had to learn about boats over the years and some of the dumb things I did in the past.

I can remember actually trying all kinds of props, not even having a tach. I also remember adjusting the engine at different angles, (trim) different hights, also without a tach to even know what I was doing. I didnt know what caused cavitation, porposing, chinewalk, what a cup was on a prop or the performance difference from aluminum props to SS, 2 blade, 3, 4, 5 blade and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Hey, and this was just a couple years ago  , no, not really. , anyway, (just babbling). So, for all you new to boating guys, We were there once ourselves, I only wish there was the internet when I was banging my head against the wall of my garage 30 years ago.

Same here, LD.

I have learned more about boats, engines, trailers and people in the last 4 years than in the previous 65.

Let me be another echo - - - I have also learned quite a bit about myself in the past three years here ----------some that I'm not all that proud of------ I tend to get impatient and abrupt. Hopefully I will mellow some.

Dang, come out of the cellar to topside and run into this post. Yep its gettin that time to get refreshed for the season.

I agree with you LD, I've learned things I probably didn't even need to know. (Ty and GG) :D and there are things that have given me some good ideas. I don't really post as much as others, but I'm here just about every day down in the cellar.

When you have been around here as long as some of us, you know who is here for the long haul and who won't be. Sorry, uh what was his name Ray something, or something away Ray? :p

I've been boating since I was 13 yrs old, out with my father. That makes it 30 years, and I've learned more in the last few months than in all that time.
We are on our fourth family boat, and yeah, done some stupid things, but never wrecked oone, and pretty much broke even money wise except for gas on all of 'em.
Great Post LD, and Great Board!!

Re: A long look back.

Yep, just picked something up today from Walleyehed and DHadley about the water pickups on the V4 J/Es. Now I can talk about it like I knew it all the time. Naw, Ill give credit where credit is due. :D

Man, there is a lot of knowledge here if you will take the time to listen and not come on too strong.

I am even starting to see that Synthetics arent the answer to everything. I still think they are the best for hard running outboards though. :D Hey, but I do have an open mind. ;) BUT ITS A VERY SMALL OPENING). :D

Re: A long look back.

Being on these boards can be a somewhat humbling experience. I thought I knew alot....these boards have shown me how much I don't know. I read them here almost daily and post when there is something I am truely passionate about. I can honestly say that this is now the first resource I come to when I need information. Overall, the crew is pretty patient and polite (except when it comes to 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke, synthetics, and Force and Bilgeliners). Sorry just had to throw that in there for flavor... :p
