I am reading it now. The illustrated version is great because it shows you what all those funny French names are.<br /><br />The film's controversy is going to make Ron Howard richer. Good for him.

hold up!!! jesus had a brother james(read your bible) who was the the head of the church in israel! jesus was a mercenary soldier who opposed the romans at that time, a Che Quevara of his time.<br /> When he converted Saul to Christianity at that time,it did not exist as such, he converted Saul to Paul from a Roman soldier to an Isralite mercenary. He was a fisher of men ,that was to convert them to his cause , a recruitment officer ...to change the water into wine meant to change the oppresion by opposing it into a better life.<br />cast your nets on the other side? don,t be a roman lacky, be an israilite1!!<br /> Being a pain in the butt for the romans it was their idea that the most demeaning way of getting rid of him was to crucify him, but he or the ideolgy of him did not cease to exisist and he became a martyr thus he lives again so are myths conceived and denied (if god did not exist man would invent him !!!!!!!!!!!! )..ps I am a devote christian but put foreward an hypothothis for conjecture as did Dan Brown can you prove the bible is completely true can you prove the Da Vinchi Code is completely false???? if this is so god will strike him down ...

I read the book a few years ago.Interesting subject matter. The plots are rather shallow and build on the fact that most are fairly ignorant of the subject matter. The style is very one dimensional and the characters are flat and shallow.<br />The author obviously tried to write a book that could easily be adjusted to the white screen.<br />This is not something that the BBC would screen on master theatre!

Ditto. I think I liked Angels and Demons better, certainly would make a better movie. The De V Code cannot be made into a movie and still follow the book. I'm guessing the movie only goes with the broad, overal theme of the book. To fully understand the characters you need to read Angels and Demons first. The De V Code is the sequel to that book.

The Da Vinci code as fiction? Of course it is. On the other hand, I tend to consider much of the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, as fiction, too. (This ought stir up some interesting reponse!)

In an era when more than likely only one in a thousand had the ability to read and write, it was not inconceivable for fiction to be interpreted as fact.<br />Even though literacy has increased through the ages, for the most part man's ability to reason have not improved by the same token.<br />Indeed the pen is mightier than the sword.

Do you think God has a sense of humor? For your sake I certainly hope he does. ;) <br /><br />

The more things change the more they change. I remember a cartoon in Playboy maybe 40 years ago, or more. It pictured a man holding a pen laying dead and another man writing in the dead mans' blood, the sword is mightier than the... Perhaps what is meant is, the Pen is more persuasive than the sword.

Well if you didnt believe that, you'd be a fundamentalist. I think much of the bible was meant to be a guide of moral values through fables and such.

I hope this is not considered hijacking a thread but Art or Pony what would lead you to believe the Bible is Fiction? Maybe we should start a different thread on this but Im curious what lead you to think of the bible in the way you do.

Why would you think it is fact?<br />Faith is just that, faith...<br />You can't prove it right or wrong....<br />Actually, true or false.......JK

Ok Haut......one question dont you think if one thing could be proven to be fiction in the Bible athiests would use this as a tool to put down Christianity. Or for that matter the muslems or some other group who opposes Christianity use it as a weapon. Christianity's whole belief system is based on the Bbile. Can I prove all the Bible is fact no, but the majority of it has been proven to be historicaly correct and at the very least culturly correct. when you speak of faith I can say I dont have faith in the Bible......I have faith in God.........that being said I believe God lead man to write down words that he felt the world needed. Not only to live physicaly but spiritualy.

You can't prove it right or wrong...<br />or true or false....<br />I'm sure there are many who would love to prove it wrong.....<br />I am not one of them...<br />If it makes you happy & doesn't harm me, by all means, believe what you will.....<br />Your faith is your faith, and I'm O.K. with it as long as you don't impose it on me.....<br />I do believe that the bible was written as a common sense handbook on how to lead your life...<br />Frankly, I agree with alot of its' messages.....JK

Haut, I understand how you feel about the bibles message. Its cool, I am just wondering about the others who said they feel the bible is not fact and why they think that way.......not trying to preach, just looking at why they feel that way..........well, dont get me wrong I love to debate this type of issue. :D
