For the first time in my 43 yrs, as a born and bread american citizen I went to the US post office and they would not accept a Canadian quarter (when buying stamps). What in the world is with that? I never in my life have ever had any issue using Canadian currency in the US the female behind the desk just looked @ the 2.75 I gave her like it was radioactive and said "I cannot accept this" I just looked @her in amazement. Mind you I go to this particular office @ least 3 to 4 times a month and know the usual attendants by name (not her) the other attendant that I know just kinda shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes but to my suprize an older lady said hear son I''ll trade you that for this one (American). With the condition our country is in and our government employees are turning down buisness and or currency WOW!!! am I missing something here? Any input would be great and thanx for hearing me rant. And one more thing if that happens to me again I'll go postal in my own way when I return I think I'll purchase thre books of stamps w/ pennies.

I think if you look in to it a government postage stamp can be used as money and that may be why they would not take it legally. I do know from working at a gas station in my youth American money was a pain in the but because the exchange rate fluctuated way to fast to keep up to it. People were always upset so we just told them to go to the bank.

your post office wouldn't accept a measly quarter. i should send you a loonie or twonie. that would throw them into fits...lol. i'm still having fits that canada did away with their paper ones on twos for coins.

Perhaps she should have given you a Canadian stamp for your Canadian quarter.

BTW, I usually prefer Vietnamese Dong, when dealing with the USPS. "That will be 4,522.50 Dong, please!"

If you think it's a stupid post so be it but. I guess I'm the small percentage of a ratio that has never encountered this issue ever I have to admit I do not pay to much attention to the change I recieve but apparently I will have to but like I said earlier the next time I go back to that post office I will buy a couple of books of stamps w/ pennies not rolled and allow my nine year old to buy them while I watch.

A silly post? Perhaps. Silly behavior? Very definately.

I don't want to come off sounding like I'm jumping down your throat, but you really should think about exactly what it is that you are upset about. You tried to pay for something in the United States of America with money that is not legal tender in the United State of America. You were also dealing with someone who was probably required by the government agency that she works for, not to accept any currency other than U.S. currency.

Instead of teaching your son to engage in immature acts of retaliation, how about teaching him to just do the right thing in the first place?

considering were on the subject of mindless drivel and complaints to that end...how about the dollar machines at the car washes....no friggin matter how you insert the bill it spits it back out...new - old it doesn't matter..back it comes.....gonna have to load up on some C-4

I say we invade Canada and force them to use a new currency.. it's been what.. over a week since we invaded someone! Terrorism by quarter confusion!

I once shipped a package in a box I had taped shut using Gorilla Tape. The person at the post office sneered at me saying "Boxes taped with duct tape could be bombs, and we won't ship that taped like that. Here, use our tape and retape that box." ..note the lack of caring as to the contents of said box, only the tape used to hold the contents in it.

Canadien quarters are worth less (at this very moment), yes, but really, we are supposedly fairly close to our neighbor, so why not offer an exchange rate, even one slightly worse than normal, if only for convenience?
