How does one determine when a pineapple is ripe enough to pick?
I never did this before, but I have two piney-apples commin up.
I love piney-apples, and thought i might try my green thummage at raising some.
From the time they flowered, they looked like little ready-to-pick versions of their grandaddy. And not being in pineapple growing land, I figured they might not get much bigger, and rot on the stalk.

Easiest way to tell is by smell. Just like cantaloupes...when they smell good, they are good.

Thanks, guys. Going by your info, I think they both need to stay put for a while.

They will start to get yellow and soft. At this point they are ready to pick. If you pick them too early, they will ripen in the pantry, but better to ripen on the stock. Too ripe, and you have hard pineapple cider! Yellow, slightly soft to the touch, and you can smell 'em. When all 3 are there, pick and enjoy!
