Re: A question about "Porposing"
A couple other thoughts on this boat of yours. Porpoising is a result of insufficient lift in the stern. In other words, the forward momentum of the boat along with the lift generated by the hull isn't sufficient enough to pull the stern up out of the water while maintaining the bow and the correct attitude. Hence, the stern lifts, can't maintain the lift and then falls back. This back and forth motion is quite irritating and can be dangerous trying to manuvouer.

There's a few other things you need to check. One is hook in the hull, already mentioned. Find a 3 or 4 foot straight edge and set in on the bottom of the hull at the bottom and look for gaps forward of the stern. That's an indication of a poorly supported boat on the trailer at some point. The other possibility is the transom. What kind of shape is it in? If the transom is rotted there's a distinct possibility that the engine at mid power is actually flexing the top of the transom inward which would immediately begin pushing the stern back down into the water. On a boat that old it's definitely something to check out. Loose motor mounts are also a possibility.
