Re: A rant, leads to ethical question..

Thanks for all the opinions.. :)

DJ, I used to be a coach and my Pop was league prez, umpire, coach, and everything else for many years there.. Board of directors, been there done that.. Dad and I both had enuff... Parents are absolutely nucking futts! :p

There are two employees at my shop.... Me, and my Pop.. Pop and I talked about it, and we concour that uniforms won't be done in time for their 2/19 opening... They can go w/o uniforms, or move the schedule up, seek out another printer, or ?....

Roscoe said, "Don't sweat it. They probably won't show up till Thursday anyway."
So true.. LMAO. :D

Barlow said, " Poor planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on mine! "
I'm gonna make a sign with that phrase on it and stick it on the front door.. :D

Did I mention that Parents are nucking futts?... :p

I feel with you,yet you are the one who needs their business.Knowing the revolving door problem ,you are the only stayer in the game. Treat them like kids.Be 2 steps ahead of them and go after them 2 months ahead of time with friendly deadline reminders and notices that the closer the deadline gets the more expensive you are if you can do it at all.
They will be grateful for they have no idea what these things involve.
Best of all, become involved in the league activity and direct them that way.

snapper
in the end your in business for a profit. its how you make your payments. took me many years to figgue that smal tid bit out.
now if you wish me to work an all nighter so you can fish I dont have a problem. however you will pay about twice the standard labor. I make that clear before the job begins.
If I am fitting pistons at midnight so you can fish the weekend your paying 150 an hour.

Extra charges for expedited service is the norm in most businesses - I think most folks expect it. Unlike the other leagues, this one don't just need uniforms; they need uniforms right now, and that is a different product, a more costly one to make, and should be more expensive.

My recommendation for future reference would be to establish a fee schedule with a higher-cost "expedited" service. Then you can waive it for you're best customers, or anyone else if you're in the mood.

Sounds like these guys are just SOL this year.

What are the consequences of losing them as a customer? If it will not hurt you too bad maybe call them and tell them either it will cost more for a rush order, or they can open without uniforms and save a buck. We have some of our stuff screenprinted. If we want a rush order they always charge more. Not much, just a dollar or so per item. They should understand that a rush order is harder to get out on time, so should be willing to pay the difference.

Hi Snapperbait, this might help, i am currently on the board in a little league and have been for 11 years now, 3 years as a uniform manager.
whats happening there is a shortage in voluntairs in leagues and also less and less kids playing every year and waiting for the last minute to sign up,less of us voluntairs to do all the work.
kids are playing soccer more than baseball,it gets tough to find sponsors also
anyway we need 2 weeks for a uniform order.
if we did what this league did in waiting to the last minute, we would expect to pay more and wouldnt think twice about it,if you do good work and are the best price in town, you shouldnt lose them as a customer. good luck

The issue is repeat busines...

If I was not paying someone overtime then I would just charge straight rate...

If I had to pay someone overtime then I would charge accordingly.

The real issue is you know what type of customer this is they have not changed from year to year. If the business is good then dont take the order or surcharge them, since you are giving up business to do their work.

If business is bad then any business is good..

Re: A rant, leads to ethical question..

In the plus column, I'm caught up on everything else (cept for Roscoe's SHIRTS AND HATS :p ), nobodys order is getting put on the back burner.. :) I even swept the floor today.. :D

"If business is bad then any business is good.." True! Gotta git-r-done...
Febuary's always been a very busy month.. Now December and January, thats a different story... Those two months have always been dead slow, and this year was no exception, so leagues are kind of that kick-start to the year..

Roscoe... Your stuff will be done on the second tuesday of next week... :p

Here is a suggestion.
Increase your charge out rates to them , and tell them is an X% discount if the order is in within a certain time span, bringing the charge out rate back to the normal/original rate.
Put it is writting.
Everybody knows where they stand them.
Cheers
Phillip
