Eric, I am located in Spicewood, the fire out here just missed us. When you get another boat and need some type of work performed give me a call. I will donate the labor if you pay for the parts.

Dang. I would be sick to my stomach. Sorry that happened to you. Congratulations on your marriage and thank you for your service. I hope everything works out and you are back on the water soon.

Thank you so much. You have no idea how much it means. I'm going to pick up a Checkmate tomorrow more than likley so I'll see how much of a project it is. I'll for sure be contacting you for advise if anything lol. Thank yall so much again. This is a great place due to the fact that people are willing to help people they don't even know and we treat everyone like family. Truely thankful to be part of a group like this. Heres a pic the guy sent me of the Checkmate. he says it's an '84 with a 4.3 MerCruiser. He didn't know the model. Does anyone recall what year they came out with the Alpha series?

An '84 might be the 3.8 liter mercruiser. It was the V-6 offering in '84 and '85. I'm not sure if they offered the 4.3 in those years as well.

I'm pretty sure you are in alpha I territory. I was just not sure if the 4.3 could be the original motor in 84. The straight six ended, and the 3.8 took its place for a very short time. Two years and i only know this because I have a 1985 Chris Craft with the rare mercruiser 3.8. The 4.3 took the 3.8 liters place in 1986 and is still in use today.

I'm sure someone here can verify my dates and check of the 4.3 could possibly have been the original motor. It likely doesn't matter of the boat was repowered at some point, but its good to know these things so you can see of the sellers story is consistent with your research.

Ill be shure not to sit at the back of a john boat if a fire passes by,seriously though,I am glad everone is ok.I would have been worried about my dog,if that was my place. The details on the you tube video are surereal though, made my eyes open wide and my jaw drop down the whole time you were talkin. If your ever in las vegas you can take my boat fishing for as long as you like.
