It sure is a sad day when your in the garage applying the last coat of wax on the old girl, draining the oil out, fogging the plugs all with care, stowing away some of the summers memories reaching for any sign of warm weather to take her out just one more time before old man winter makes his way through my region.

What a great summer we had with our boat, tubing with the kids, fishing with my buds, even forgetting the plug day would sufice right now, but as a Northwest Indiana resident for the last 39 years, all good weather must come to an end.

my wife calls me silly, but she just doesnt understand the freedom you feel when you out on the water cruising on a glass lake with the wind in your face, if thats being silly, then silly it is.

Im moving south as soon as she gets her degree...putting up with this weather for this long NOW THATS SILLY!!!:D

for all those who are or are about to put your old girl up for the winter, i feel your pain and your not alone..........

now i have listen to all these politicians and the xperts talk about how bad it is.....errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

come on spring!!!!

FMagician, I'm in the same club. I dread this time of year. It's like saying goodbye to a friend who'll be gone for awhile.

To all of you who don't have this problem, good for you. But do this club a favor and Shadup:p:p:p:D

Re: A Sad Day

I hear you. Here in Minnesota, folks are winterizing their boats now, too. I just pulled the outboard and trolling motor off my little tinny and took them into the basement, along with the trolling motor battery. The boat looks very forlorn on its trailer.

I haven't flipped the boat upside down yet, but I suppose I'll do that this weekend, right after getting the snowblower ready for its job.

There's still fishing to be done here, but October is a windy month, and I don't like taking a 12' boat out on the lake when the wind's howling. I'll be shore fishing, instead.

Ah, well...

We're supposed to hit triple digits today and tomorrow. Hopefully it'll cool off a bit by the middle of November :) The comfortable boating season is just about to start around here. It gets darn chilly at night though, 75 or so. ;)

Well I'm further North than all of you and unfortunately, I'll be doing the winterization tomorrow night.

I'm with you Fishinmagician, its gonna be a sad day and I look forward to a mild and early spring. Here's hoping.

Not quite there yet...at least another month +/-.
I was out the past two days crabbing. It was chilly in the morning, but it beats working!

The peace of mind I get from winterizing my boat, is the thought of the upcoming hunting season.;)
The sadness of missing my boat doesn't hit til the hunting is over for me.
I know I sure hate hangin that bow up for the season though.

The two seasons for me are "Boating season", and "Bow season".:)

Can't winterize yet ... there is still hunting season (use the boat to get to the more remote locations) - archery started last saturday, and sub zero fishing trips before the lake TOTALLY freezes over. Have cut ice many times to get back to, or out of, of the launch area. Nope, ain't time to winterize till the beginning of February ... then it is only a couple months before getting her out for the early spring fishing when the bass are just waking up! ;)

8 hours till the road trip to hunt Elk!

We have to winterize in Arizona as well . . . say goodbye to the wife and infant son for the duration of the fall bite . . . switch out from the trusty bass gear to the trout gear . . . pack a light windbreaker (a.k.a. winter coat) for the chilly (60?s or 70?s) mornings . . . perhaps even switch from open toed sandals to closed toed sandals . . . still have to pack sun screen, but can pretty much ignore bug spray . . .

It is a rough time of year here . . . :D

That's what I was thinking . . . I'm just bumming that I'm probably not going to boat on Thanksgiving Day this year. We're going to the beach instead :p

It was 30 degrees when I woke this morning, not Celsius, Fahrenheit :(

Oh well, how many of you can skate over the area that you fished just a few months prior or play hockey where you normally dock your boat.....

Wait a second, I'm sure your nowhere near as jealous as I am that you'll still be boating and fishing when I'm snowblowing and shovelling come Feb.:(:(

Yes this time of the year sucks. I got a late start to boating this year due to replacing my transom. With a 6 month old in the house I didn't get to work on it much at any one time so I didn't get the boat in the water till sometime in June. Next year's project is major work on my trailer but I'm hoping to swap trailers with my uncle so as to minimize the boating downtime.

Re: A Sad Day

Drained my block and manifold 2 days ago.

But not ready to call it quits just yet.

Strippers will be showing up i think next week.

So i'll be draining my block and manifold maybe 5-6 times more before i do the serious winterization.

Good new is younger 13 is a fishing machine, would fish all day and all night.

The older one is 16 has this year as his last, as a youth so he gets to go to youth day never fails to get a deer.

He's the deer slayer, he don't like the boat alot not exciting enough.
