With gas going up up up again,let me ask. At what point would the price make a real differance to your lifestyle? When would you not be able to drive to work and back without car pooling , or when would you have to just park it and get a motorbike etc or walk?

We are 13 miles outside of a small town. Very few options here. But, ....yet... I could use the 1903 Peerless steam tractor and take five hours to take my wife to work one way...wood is it's fuel........

i ride the bus quite a bit, only 3 blocks from the house. cheaper than starting the car. i ride for 25 cents, 5 more years, i can ride for free.

Quitting my job and letting the govt. support me is more an option than walking/carpooling/taking the bus.

I live close to 60 miles from work, and there are no other employees who live near me, or any bus lines that run to work.

My business uses 4 vans.
They run 7 days/nights a week.
Only option I have is to sell out or buy the gas.
As long as the business can pay the bills, I will hang in there, but I am not going to borrow from Peter to pay Paul.

Yeah... this 'gas' thing is starting to hit home for me too. Luckily, before it mattered as much, I chose to buy a home very near my office. I'm about 3 - 4 minutes to my son's daycare and another 3 - 4 minutes to work from there. I don't use much fuel in my vehicle... but I make up for it and then some in boat fuel. A good 2 day weekend of being on the water costs $250 or more now. My boat is 10 gph at cruise so... gas costs... nevermind... I don't like the numbers I keep coming up with
If this trend continues I'll be in a single diesel trawler by 2010-ish. Hopefully that'll stay affordable enough to keep me on the water until I'm so old I don't even know what a boat is...

Oh yeah, and three cheers for congress levying another 18 billion in gas taxes... that'll fix the problem.

The cost of gas has already affected my life a lot. I drive about half as much as I used to. That's why I went out and bought a diesel car.

I am glad I have the option to stay home.

Now you can convert it to Bio-Diesel...... while you are staying at home you can make some. It will give you something to do while you are not guiding people on exotic armadillo hunts!

I live 2 miles from work. But, even if I didn't out here in the sticks there are no buses, taxis, trains, or car pooling options. I used to drive around on warm summer days just to look at things and go new places. Those days are gone. There is not much I can do to save any more gas.

Maybe $4/gal then I'll have to use the truck for towing the boat only. Boat usage will be lot....lot...lot less frequently. Back to bank fishing... I lives 10 minutes away from work now and I'll move closer and walk if I have to. I predicts that in the future we will move back into the our downtown areas and repopulated it just like way back before the automobile was affordable for everyone. The suburbs will be less populated just like the city is now.

Not driving a whole lot and having a boat thats pretty good on fuel, it's not the price of gas that will do me in. With the city, county, state and federal governments screeming for cash, it will be taxes.

Taxes and gas and food, taxes and gas and food, taxes and gas and food, taxes and gas and food..up daily.
Pension... flat lining.
Cut my trips to town way back. Paid 7 bucks for 2 stinking gallons of gas (Deisel at $4...trucking will pass it on) yesterday for just mowing the lawn. Or thats enough for a good warm up on the big boat, and 100 feet out. Selling it. Stick with my little 135 Flatty for fun, and the 20 footer, big motor off, Honda kicker doing the work.
I don't like where we are heading, but not much I can do but maybe double the blood pressure med's

When I get out of the Navy, moved and start my new job I will be living about 15 miles from work. Working 6 days a week that is about 360 miles a week and I have a Ram pickup that I will probably be getting about 15mpg. I doubt that my Grand Cherokee would get much better that 18-20. I am therefore looking at getting a motorcycle for transit to work when it is decent enough to drive. Not to mention that I like bikes, been a while since I have been on one so I will have to start carefully, but won't take long to be back up to speed so to speak.
