According to intn'l rules of the road, the Carrier had right of way due to restricted manuvering. She had to keep on a straight course to continue flight ops. Those fisherman were probably anchored out in a shipping lane anyway.

I don't think the military operates much within shipping lanes... and the carrier could have maneuvered around them by suspending flight ops for just a couple of minutes, however, that would cause fuel levels of the aircraft to drop dangerously low (maybe only enough for 2 attempts instead of a minimum of 3). Either way, just like on the road, the bigger vehicle generally has right of way (not legally, just in practice).

I was stationed aboard a Destroyer from '86 to '92. I know the Navy operates just about anywhere they want, shipping lane or not. They don't give over right of way during flight ops. We were plane guard for what seemed like an eternity during all 5 of my WestPac/persian gulf deployments. As long as that carrier is flying "ball-diamond-ball" from the yard-arm, she has the right of way and she is gonna continue flight ops and get as many touch-and-go's as possible.

Plus...........The bigger ship always has the right-of-way.:)

Well. Its not The US Navy, or even the Canadian Navy (Yes.. We have a navy, no it doesnt consist of 14' lunds with .50cals lol)

This happened to my Sgt here at the unit. We had picked up a few Zodiacs for our engineers, in which they sat in the compound for roughly a year and a half.

One day our SGT was very upset, I guess the giant head came down and chewed him out for having it there. And that rolled downstairs to us. We were ordered to move them.

I was tasked out otherwise for the rest of the day, and the shop was closed when I got back so I went home. The next day the MPs were at the shop talking to the Sgt. No big deal as it happens quite often. We have a large fleet of vehicles and the mps are usually there if any sort of accident happens. This was a twist because apparently one of the zodiacs were missing!

The next morning we went for a run. Down the big hill of death (because you always have to run back up the hill to get home) to the water edge by the yacht club. About 50 feet out tied to a buoy was the missing zodiac! We stopped for a moment and laughed our butts off as we found this zodiac had all of the Sgts office equipment in it. Coffee mug and all!
