Always check the easiest things first!
Yesterday I went to start my boat, I ran the bilge blower, put the key in and... nothing! Utterly disappointed I got out my test light and started tracing wires. 10-15 minutes into the job I thougth nah, couldn't be that... I went up to the bridge and the shifter was into forward a little. I pulled it back to neutral and she flashed up. I hate when that happens. Easy first, easy first, easy first...

Ahh yes, that old trick. It has got me a few times. And my new (1986) truck, being a stick, requires pushing the clutch to start. I am still just getting used to it! (my dads old similar truck didnt require that)
happens to the best of us, just like fergetting those darn plugs!
Craig :)

Similar thing happened to my Dad and good friend who took an old glastron I used to have fishing for a week. The motor was a 50hp Johnny with the original kill switch lanyard, this was the "cover" type that would get hard and lose it's ability to retain the kill button.
Yep, second day into the trip the Johnny wouldn't start. Spent the rest of the week fishing with the trolling motor.

Dad was a little unhappy when he got home. Said "I thought you said that motor was Ok!" I said I would have a look.

Well, 5 minutes into the investigation, most of witch was hooking up gas, and water muffs, I had her running. Showed Dad what happened. Didn't help. My buddy Wayne who was with him just laughed. Said the trip was still good cause he didn't let any of the beer get warm!!

I got nailed by the kill switch that you hook to your belt loop via a lanyard.

It's real sensitive, and I somehow managed to kick it on the off position.

Funny thing was, it tried to start, but wouldn't run.

*@&$^!~)($@^ !!!!!

I had a full family aboard too. After getting everyone out, and strip searching the engine and muttering some 'colorful metaphores'...

DUH! Kill switch.

Will it happen again? Yea, probably....

H.
