Re: A warning

Really amazing how fast things can happen. My prayers go out to the families of all involved, really tragic to have a needless death of someone so young.

Just like riding a motorcycle, many do not consider the forces involved with high-speed recreation. Virtually every powerboat or PWC around goes fast enough to kill if mishandled, and there are no seatbelts, crumple zones, airbags, or crash standards to protect the hapless occupants. Truly a tragic story, but good to see there are a number of people like yourself who are willing and able to lend a hand when tragedy strikes.

On edit: This thread should probably be a stickie...it's something most of us need to read from time to time when we forget our own mortality.

So sad that this happened and also so sad that you and your family had to witness it. I am glad however that you pitched in to help where you could, in videoing the scene and recovering the PWC and debris. Not everybody steps up and helps when they should. We are proud to have you among us.

Re: A warning

So sorry to hear about this. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. We do appreciate you posting this story. It reinforces the need for all of us to be extra safe out there. As was stated, it's happened before and will again, but hopefully not to anyone on this forum and as many boaters as we all can talk to.

Oops - I'm sorry for you and your family to have to experience even a portion of this tragic thing. Best hopes, prayers and wishes that you will all recover quickly and well.

Thanks for reminding all of us why safety is so critical.

That story happens down here at least once a month. You have to be 14 to ride one here. They rent them to the tourist everyday. 60 mph and no brakes and no steering when they panic and let off the gas. I personally have no use for them. Two weeks ago an 11 year old lost his leg.

Are Jetski more dangerous than a motor bike?
They have no effective braking system other than power off, accelerate as fast if not faster than and Ducati Monster, they don't handle or turn as well, yet the only protection you are obliged to wear is a PFD.
Does any state oblige you to wear a helmet?
Admittedly there is generally more space on the sea or lake than the highway but is the water better to land on at 60mph than the tarmac?
I Jetski with my pals here most weekends and they scare the life out of me.
Just last week a kid got killed here in an accident.

I don't know the answer but it horrifies me what can happen.

Re: A warning

It happens every year, it'll happen next year too... that's the really sad part.

Absolutely right. Unfortunately this will go on and on. Just like the roads getting more and more drivers and busier every minute of the day the lakes are getting just as busy too.

A real tear jerker story, My condolences to the family such a emotional time for them losing their baby girl sister. And thanks to all those who helped it would be really tough coming upon something like this. Had another drowning at Lake Mead this weekend. Young man swimming without a life vest or any help around, 12 feet of water near marina.

Re: A warning

sure put a damper on my evening, but thanks for sharing it Ward. It helps to remind the rest of us of how fragile life is, and how much more so it is on the water. It could have happened with two boats, water skiers or Jet skis. Fact is, someone died, and that is never good. My thoughts to all involved in the tragedy..directly and indirectly.
