a few years ago my dad was out on his boat with a few of his "friends" a few miles away from chesapeak bay when one of his "friends" broke out a box of quarter stick dynimite (m-1000) and it turns out they were the real thing, the wind was blowing fairly hard that day so they tossed em left into the wind so they wouldent be blown back into the boat, when they got down to the last 2 or 3 my dad pick one up an tried to lite it, but when he did the flame (do to the wind) hit the bottom of the fuse, the the m-1000 instantly sent chunks of his thumb and fingers flying every were, my dad tied the anchor rope around the parts of his hand that were gushing blood (he pretty much did not have skin on his hand)and told his "friends" to drive to the nearest beach and one to call the coast guard. the coast guard failed to show by the time he got to the beach but the only problem was there was a sand bar no oe new about and the plowed right into it with the engines wide open, there was an ambulance waiting on the beach so my dad got out and started to run, he forgot about the rope and got pulled back triped fell coverd his hand in salt water and dropped his thumb and fingers he foun the fingers lost the thumb and plowed his way on foot across a sand bar coverd with 3 fet of water, my dad is still missing half his thum but they saved his fingers his "friends" lost the boat and it turned up a week later in the bay with a huge crack in the fiberglass hual, the end
