I posted in here a while back about the spindles on my trailer and wanted to give an update, plus kudos to Shorelandr.

After looking all over the net for the correct spindle, I contacted Shorelandr. Following their instructions I took pictures and measurements and sent them along. This was on a Sunday. By Monday, I had an owner's manual for my 1985 Challenger trailer, complete with part numbers and exlpoded drawings. After giving them my part numbers, they checked and determined that the parts are still available. They do not sell direct, so I found a local dealer who ordered the parts. I was warned ahead of time, make sure they're correct, the parts are special order and non-refundable.

A few days later my spindle came. Sure as heck, it was the wrong one. I sent Shorelandr some pics showing them my wasted spindle and how it compared to the one they sent. I explained that I could not return the parts to the dealer.

A few days go by, and I get an email. They believe they found the correct spindle and would have it drop-shipped direct from the distributor, no charge. They also told me to keep the old one, no need to return it, and asked what else they could do for me.

The new spindle came, and it was indeed the correct one.

I think Shorelandr's parts people deserve a lot of credit. For them to go to as far as they did for a guy who bought a 27 year-old used trailer is extraordinary, IMO. Customer service is a lost art these days, but not for these guys.

Please post the pictures here and add the part numbers for both spindles. It might help someone else in the future.

Cool. Never had to use their customer service people, but it's good to know they have great service. There are 3 of us in our family who have only owned Shorelandr trailers....... And we have nothing but good things to say about their product.....

I can do some of this.

Here's a pic of the trailer on jackstands. The model is as described above, a 1985 Challenger

Here is the original spindle next to the wrong one. I do not have a picture of the correct one. They also didn't give a part number on the correct one. I can tell you that the old part number S-2121 is no longer made. I also know that part number S-3002, the top one in the pic, is wrong. Note how the grooved for the U-bolts don't align between the two spindles.

On the 'correct' spindle, there are three grooves. The two outboard ones line up with the two groves on the old spindle. The third groove lines up with the inboard groove on the top spindle in the pic. It was either designed as a universal replacement, or for a heavier duty trailer that needed 3 u-bolts. I suspect the latter, since the spindle is 1-1/16 rather than the 1" on the original. I did have to get a different bearing set, but both sets use the same race.

NOTE: I have the owner's manual for this trailer in PDF. If anyone is in need, send me a PM with your email addy and I'll forward it to you. It has a lot of info including part numbers.
