The flu vac. for this season is a mean sob. Wait until you're 100%, if not don't take it. Even if you're healthy, take it easy for a few days after the shot. I took a shot because they were giving it out at work and I had a limited time window so I took it anyway. Got the shot last Friday, went out drinking and stayed outside in cold temp way longer then I should that night. Was in a wedding the next day, drank some more and wore myself out pretty good. Went fishing the next day in 20 mph wind with just a hoodie sweatshirt. I only stayed out for 2-3hrs but it was enough to kick my azz. I'm hurting now! :(

Got the shot 4 years ago, got sick as a dog that winter, several times i was out of work.

Missed the shot the next year do to several factors, was fine all winter. Haven't taken the shot since, haven't taken a sick day in 3 winters now.

Coincidence? Most likely, but i'm still not getting the shot again.

Re: A word of precaution

With my allergies and sinus issues, I get colds and infections often. There is a HUGE difference between those and having the flu, I have found. About 10 years ago, I decided to have a flu shot (kids in elemantary school and didn't want to catch it from their class-mates). A few days later I was bed-ridden for a week, high temp, dehydrated, couldn't keep anything down.. it was the worst illness I've ever experienced!

I haven't had the flu shot since.... haven't had the flu.

Thing is, I'm considering it this year since there has been so much hype the past couple of years. I must be crazy.. at 45 years old, am I at risk or cruisin' for a bruisin'?

I had the same experience, but twice. Doctors tell me otherwise, but fact is that I don't get sick when I don't have it and do when I do have it.

I got the shot last week and had absolutely NO problems. Then again, I didn't go out drinking or freezing or otherwise abusing myself after I had the shot. I reckon THAT is why I didn't have the problem that you did! LOL :D

I get the flu shot every year and have never had a problem.

I dont know what the deal is with all yall getting sick behind a flu shot unless you all got a dose of the live virus. I've taken the flu shot every year for the last 20 plus years and have never been sick after it nor have I had the flu. They are giving them out at the office for free again this year and I will take one....If I get sick it will probably be due to something I picked up prior to getting the shot.

I get the shot every year and have for years without any issue (knock on wood). Last year I was required to get the shot for the regular flu as well as the Swine flu (remember that?) because my twins were premature and very susceptible to getting sick. I'll get one again this year and hope that I don't get any side affects.

Re: A word of precaution

When I was a lot younger flu shots usually made me sick, but USN required me to take them.

Then, for about 30 years I didn't get the shots and occasionally got the flu (or A flu, because there are many different strains).

When I started teaching in colleges, with lots of student contact every day, I got dreadfully ill and nearly died in 1989.

Then I started taking the shots annually and have not had flu since. In fact, since I retired I haven't been really ill from a virus until a couple weeks ago when a virus that made many family members very sick gave me a very scary attack of vertigo. . . but no other symptoms. Go figure.

Bottom line? My doc and all five of the family RNs say take the shot. If it does make you sick that will be far shorter and milder than catching it when your immune system might be compromised.

I stopped getting the flu shots long ago. Everytime I would get the shot, I would get the flu. I'll take my chances without them.

We ban poultry from china into this country.

Alot of vaccinations are made by using chicken eggs/chicken egg cells to grow the antibody that are injected into us.

Where does this flu shot come from??? In my mind everything is made in china unless I can prove it for a fact that it isnt.

No thanks, I don't want china chicken egg cells injected into me.

Same here. I haven't gotton a flu shot in 30 years. Nothing that nyquil didn't fix in a couple nights. Last flu shot I remember being sick as a dog all winter and swore I'd never get one again.
