Re: A World Without America

Hey QC, Don't know about the apology part, and I for one do understand the natural tendency of non-Americans to resent our sucess. That said: VERY GOOD POST: MY MAN; makes me proud ta be an AMERICAN, (not that I wasn't already). Respectfully, (n' that's for you too Phil),JR

Crunch, why don't you get yourself a boat and get yourself out of the house for a moment.

Phil, it might have escaped your notice but I live in the Northern Hemisphere..... we're having winter here. :p

I agree, apology is probably not necessary, but it rolled so nicely off the keyboard . . . Thanks for the comments JR.

Re: A World Without America

I'm pleased I didn't arrive on this post earlier as my reply would not have been very polite, fortunatly Haut got in first and said basicly what I would have in a much more civilised way.

As for waterinthefuels reply, it's this type of arrogance that makes people dislike Americans, I was tempted just to treat it with the contempt it deserverd, but, do a google search for Australian Inventions, you'll find thier responsable for a lot more than the boomerang. Also if someone was to do the sums I'm willing to bet that Australia commited more troops per head of population durring WWII than either England or the USA.

Great post QC!

Pommy
The term Pommy for a British person is commonly used by Australian English, New Zealand English, South African English and Afrikaans speakers, and is often shortened to Pom. The origin of this term is not confirmed and there are several persistent false etymologies, most being acronyms.

One theory is that, as the majority of early immigrants to Australia were British, it is rhyming slang for "immigrant" from a contraction of the word "pomegranate", or possibly more directly related to the appearance of the fruit, as it bears a more than passing resemblance to the typical pale complexioned Briton's skin after his or her first few days living under the hot Australian sun.

Perhap's America is taking a page from history in regard's to the current mideast crisis. As a child i really never understood why a world of people full of love, compassion and understanding would allow 6 million poeple of a particaular race to be slaughterd. I still dont.

This current conflict has exposed one thing that is undeniable, the hate, lack of compassion and lack of respect for human life in that area of the world. Do we deserve the blame for exposing it, perhap's i for one do not hold the intellect to come to a definate conclusion.

History will be the judge, but i assure you what ever the outcome we have and agian are paying a huge price for a better world, right wrong or indifferent it has cost a great deal of discord money and energy that could have been spent to better ourselve's

One thing is for sure, when the world goes crazy and thing's get real bad, were alway's there, no question's just there....................

Got that right TG, but someone will come back and accuse us of Imperialism.

Who sends the most aid when disaster strikes? Who sends food when crops fail?

We are not only the Worlds Police Force, we are the fire/rescue team and the ambulance driver/medics.

Someone has to do it... sure can’t count on the UN.

Of course you know why the Brits never had cold beer? It was because their refridgerators were made by Lucas Electric, the same company that used to do the electrics of British Cars. And I assume you know the reputation of them.;)
