A1 to A2 at Sea Ray 1978 with Gm305

Would you please tell me if i can put A2(replacing also bell-housing-transom)
at my SeaRay1978 with GM305?The replacement will be done by an expert ,i just want to know if he 'll have problems fitting the yoke to the engine.Thanks in advance

Yeah, it would work, but it would cost a fortune......
An Alpha 2 has the same HP rating as an A1......
I don't see the logic in going to an A2......
If your drive is shot, get an after market replacement that will bolt right on to what you are allready set up for......
If your transom assy. is shot, I would look on ebay & find one from that era that is in good shape......
Both options are way cheaper....IMHO.....​

My thought is coming from the fact that both bell housing and transom are corroded at least at the place where bellows are attached.But A2 isn't at all better than A1 ?A complete replacement of A1 would cost to me about the same(about 3,800 $).

Unless this has all been replaced Before,...... You Don't have an Alpha 1 at All....
A 1978 would be a Mod.1, Pre-alpha......... Alpha 1s came out in 83 or 84.....

If you Up-date to an Alpha 1, Or a Gen.II,.....
You're going to have to Up-date the Flywheel Cover(rear motor mount),+ the Coupler as well......
And,.......
There maybe More Flys in the Pudding too..........

He's right with respect to the transom plate.....:redface:
An Alpha 1 Gen 1 drive will bolt right on though......
There are new after market drives on ebay for $1200 US....
Getting them shipped there, I don't know......
You are way better off using good vintage OEM stuff for your set up....
& leave it as close to stock as possible, except for the new drive
It will save you thousands.....​

Does this number means anything ?AC-MR-43T
It is the outdrive with the hook at the top and the only anode ,the wing at the back and the two bolts?Do i help you?

Yup, definately Pre alpha.......
But an Alpha 1 gen 1 drive will bolt uo to the bell housing just fine......
AC mr43T is the spark plug type & number....

Ayuh,........ If the Transom Assembley is corroded to Dust,......

You can replace it with a Used Mod.1 assembley,+ run Either the Mod.1, or the Alpha 1 drives.....
And,.... Everything on the Inside will bolt Right Up.....

Or,......
You can use the Alpha 1 assembley,+ Both the Mod.1,+ the Alpha 1 drives will fit,....
But,...... There's Many Issues hooking your Motor,+ Trim up to it......

Or,.......
If you go with the brand new Alpha 1 GenII,......
Then you'll have Alot of issues hooking up the Motor,+ whatnot.....
And,......
You can run Only the Alpha 1 GenII drives........
