Ahh, dumpster diving... The good old days. When I was a teen I was at the local dump and was ready to toss a rock through a wood framed mirror. For some reason, I thought better of it and carried that heavy sucker home to mom. She stripped the frame of a few coats of paint and found a beautiful solid cherry hand carved frame. The mirror was basically oval, with a pinched top. A few years later I come to learn it was worth a few grand. It now hangs in the front hall of my Mom and Dads house, as it has since
Mom refinished it back in the 70's.

Some good stuff has been was tossed in the dump over the years.

I've never paid more then 10 bucks for any piece of furniture I own. Of course I'm a bachelor and live with my dog in a dump of a house. I have a difficult time finding women to clean my house. They do it once and quit. lol I found my carpet in the road ditch about 15 years ago. It's some 70's Shag style. You know I've tried to hire someone to come in and paint. I haven;t pained the inside of the house in the 20 years I've been here. But, I only want to give them 200 dollars in labor. The house is so small it could be painted in a day. Nobody will work for 200 dollars a day anymore I guess.

If you are still looking for that hard to find lamp I would suggest a place in charlotte nc called SINPSONS lighting. They say they have EVERYTHING with thousands of differant light fixtures in stock. Google up simpsons lightings and learn more. This place has been in charlotte for many years and claims to have the stuff others dont.

DOH! I knew I should have consulted with a professional decorator like you before squandering my money....

I tell ya, if I don't do things myself, I just can't afford it anymore. Now I have worn out carpet in the front hall and the linolium in the kitchen is shot and has holes worn in it. For the price of paying someone to do the job for me, I can lay tile, and still have money left over to do the hard wood floors in the living room and dining room. Then I'm done, right? Right? Right????

The best part about doing something yourself is you get exactly what you want. Be it a multi outlet at an exact location on a specific circuit, or the lighting you want, or the grade of materials, or the spacing or orientation of the floor tile, etc. You do it, you got it.

I hate paying people to do stuff, then when I come home, they forgot something, or something that I thought would have been obvious and a given is not to them. They cut corners. They get annoyed when you stay home all day and check in on them every hour.

I pay when I don't have the skill, or its too dangerous, or it will take me way too long. Othewise, if I can do it, I do. I'm not a poor man, but I'm not going to spend money like a rich man either.
