Re: AARP ?
The problem with AARP is that they really did start out to help/protect senior citizens. Once they made all these deals with outside companies e.g. insurance companies, hotels, restaurants, etc... they found out how much money they could make in the senior market. Now it is just a political money making machine. I am only going to write about the insurance end of it as that is one of my businesses.
AARP puts their name up for bid every two or three years and sells it to the highest bidding insurance company. In return for the millions of dollars they receive from them the insurance company's agents can go to someone's house and tell them, legally, that they are from AARP. This gives them instant credibility with this person. AARP only "endorses" this companies policies. It does not back them or help service andy claims, nor does it help with any problems that you may have with them. Also, as stated earlier, you can get more coverage cheaper and have an agent to take care of any problems you have.
AARP realized that most of the money in the U.S. is held by seniors and insurance companies and they are making the most of it.
I don't know if the next thing I am going to say is true or not but I have had two clients tell me that they visited Washington D.C. and went in AARP's new building. It is mostly marble inside with brass handrails and fixtures everywhere but it is mostly empty except for their offices. This doesn't some very responsible to me if it is true.
