But I hear Vicodin good? My dentist let me drop by real quick, then confirmed - and I go to another dentist for the root canal, they put in temp filling, then back to my dentist in a week or two to put perm. filling in? Hmmm, never had one.... :)

well, they don't say "more fun than a root canal" for nothing.
Good luck!

Sometimes it's not as bad as they say. You'll certainly be uncomfortable but at least you won't be enduring all the pulling, yanking, and bruising from pulling a tooth. Dentists are usually pretty good about asking if you're in pain and numming you up more. Ya, pain killers do a good job. Trouble is, if you need them, it's not really fun.

I've had two, first was 20 years ago, last one was a couple years ago, let me tell you technology is a wonderful thing!! First one I thought the Dentist was actually a wayword proctologist, last one was a breeze, like Pirate said it won't be something you will want to do everyday but just relax they have come a very very long way in the last few decades, and the hype is far worse then the actual procedure.

Had one about 3 months ago... wasn't too bad at all, not nearly as bad as everybody had gotten me ready for! That numbing stuff is good alright... if you can keep calm during all the vibrations of the drills and other tools, it's no problem at all... Strangely enough, mine didn't even hurt after it was done, not even days later... swollen jaw for a few days after (cuz mine was inflamed) and it's all good to go!

Good luck... don't worry!

Oh... and if u don't like to be made fun of, don't get into situations where you have to talk much for a couple hours afterwards.. the numbing stuff works well on that too haha

Went to a dentist several years ago for a toothache. He started talking root canals, crowns, ect., to the tune of a couple grand $$.

'Uh, Doc, how much to just pull those two teeth?'

'$55.00 a tooth.'

'Get your pliers....'

Sorry EZ, just had to :p

in and out in 1.5 hours?? Waiting and paper work included?? Didn't feel a thing and it all looks good! Course the left side of my face is still numb, thinkin gotta drink my beer with a straw! LOL :) And I took one antibiotic last pm, killed my gut - but doc injected meds in jaw(???) and dont have to take anymore.
Also updated Kaiser and my dentist as to what antibiotics work and dont work with me.
Cost to me was $327
Back to dentist w/ in 6 weeks to put in perm. filling.

Just save up your pennies. My daughter's pregnant, and she ended up in the emergency room with a tooth ache. $300 deductible and $375 doctor's bill. They spent 20 seconds with her, and didn't even look into her mouth. Gave her Loritab. Then, the root canal was $890. Her new cap was $800.

I mean save up many pennies.

I bet going to the emergency room for a tooth ache would cost a ton. I don?t know her situation but I have never gotten out of an ER for under $1000. Just seems odd to use ER for a tooth ache, did she injure herself to cause this situation?

Just rolled up $80.00 in change last night, I plan on filling my gas tank....almost :)

I've had 4 root canals now and crowns followed. Never regetted a one, there's alot to be said for painless chewing and hot/cold. I was pretty nervous, but once I got pumped full of novocaine, it was pretty good and reletively painless. During the procedure, if it hurts, tell the orthodontist you need more novocaine. You can get Rx for pain killers for afterward, but I never had to take more than ibuprofen (Advil etc.).

Good luck, you'll be glad you did it!

Oh yeah, the cost is another matter. Hope you have some dental insurance!

It's even better when it's all done, isn't it? I found that after about a week or so, the sensitivity was pretty much gone. Glad you're feeling better.

I think the worst part of any of it is the Novocaine shot/s.

Glad I just got it over with, all those clamps and tools they use were a bit daunting, but these guys were sooooo good, nice to not have to worry about it anymore! :)
