I wouldn't be scared of the carb. Now on modern cars, EFI is better for driveability in terms of cold starts, short run times and emissions. Where carbs really shine is steady state environments where once the engine is started it is run for long periods of time, like off-road powersports equipment, boats, aircraft, etc. Your boat, snowmobile, quad, dirt bike, airplane, etc are all things you usually run for hours once you start them so cold-starts and warm-up isn't as much of a bother as with your car when you fire it for a 10 minute run to the corner store. For cars I am a big proponent of EFI and have done a few carb to EFI conversions on my own vehicles so I am no stranger to working on them but for the off-road stuff I just can't make a good case for EFI and keeping it simple wins.

Just read through the posts and most are talking about ease of starting. I hated FI when it came out on cars but love it now. As for boating , ease of starting is great . But the biggest plus of it is fuel consumption. It only delivers enough fuel which is required by the engine. Which at todays gas prices is a big plus.
