If i were to move the engine forward a bit (needing some more room to get some frozen bolts off the exhaust tubes on my volvo 290a) What would I risk messing up? If anyting at all? But I'm thinking I'd lose gimbal alignment?

It's not that hard to realign it if for some reason it needs it you can always look at one of the manuals in the Adults Only section.

The Volvo 290 setup is much different than a Merc or Volvo SX. I think you have to remove the drive, at least the upper unit, to get at the bolts that fasten the intermediate bearing carrier to the transom mount. The intermediate bearing carrier is bolted to the engine, so you cannot move the engine at all unless it is unbolted from the transom as I understand it.

I have my drive off, the transom plate is pulled back as far as it will go before the exhaust hits, making room to try to get the bolts out of the exhaust flange. But its still tight in there, and the bolts so frozen on, I really need more room. The way it looks, the engine should slide forward no problem, but like i said, i didn't want to screw up alignment and create even more of a PITA for myself.

I am going to try soaking it with pb blaster for a day or so to see if that helps...
