While in the middle of restoring a 86 268 searay weekender i've discovered that the transom is rotted and will need to be replaced. My game plan is to cut the inner skin and remove the rotten wood keeping the outer skin in tact.If i remove the inner skin and wood. Will the boat want to cave in on it's self? With winter coming i can probably get all the old wood out. Then i'll have to wait till spring to actually install the new wood and glass it in. Pics of the rot and boat can be seen by clicking the link in my sig

To my knowledge, there's no risk of structural damage during a transom repair, at least that I've heard of, and no one mentioned it when I redid mine

Basically the outer skin will be the only thing holding the back of the boat together for a few months

You may want to brace it or strap it just to be on the safe side.

from all of the research i've done, this hasn't been a problem. however a simple brace may be cheap insurance, especially if it will be apart for a while

Tim's 2 cents
