About time to take the rating system down?

Sorry I haven't jumped on this issue a little quicker but I have been traveling for iboats over the last few weeks. I sure like the state of Florida!<br /><br />The rating system is just a feature of the upgrade a few months back that we just turned on because it was available. It does not indicate skill level, knowledge or experience. It really just indicates if you are a bad speller or have really gotten another person mad. I cannot make changes or adjustments to how it works. What do you all say its time to just turn the ugly thing off? Comments please.

It seems to cause a little trouble and strife once in a while so I guess I'm not opposed to abolishing it although I admit I fully deserve my no star rating. Of course I don't even know how to work the rating system!<br /><br />However, I would suggest that some of the more experienced members of this website deserve some recognition and that it might help new members to know their advice comes from someone who has a track record and is well regarded on the board. Why don't you just restrict the ability to rate people to members who have made more than 250 posts -- those people have demonstrated a longterm commitment to helping others on the board and can be expected to have an interest in not misusing the rating system so as to undermine its credibility.

The idea of the ranking after a certain number of posts is a very good one, unfortunately the program we are using does not give us any flexibility. Good thought though.

I wish there were a way to "adjust" the criteria for rating fellow members so that the stars would really mean something, but apparently there isn't.<br /><br />We have had at least a few uproars in which it has been used by disgruntled persons to "punish" someone who offended them.<br /><br />For that reason alone I think it has to go.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB

Hey hone Man..Good to see ya back..Happy holidays back atya!<br />ADMIN5, Everybody likes Florida this time of year...But you wouldn't want to go outside for more than 5 minutes in the summer. It is really that bad,honestly..And let's not get 12Footer started on the mosquitos. <br />But congrats on the iboats deal.I think it will prove to be a match made in heaven (from what little they wrote of it in the local paper).<br />The stary doo-dad just confuses the newbies (and some of the oldbies too). I vote for shutting it off.

Why should we "rate" each other anyway?<br /><br />We're here to discuss boats and motors in an open forum. We are not here to compete with one another to see who has more stars than the other! Thats grade school stuff.<br /><br />Remove it or deactivate it.
