Okay, I have a 1985 Four Winns 170 Horizon. I bought the boat for $1500 3 years ago and this is my third summer running the boat. I'm a mechanic so I pulled the top end off the motor and did quite a bit of work when I got it and she runs like a top. I know the previous owner replaced the outdrive but like and idiot I didn't ask about the transom. Now this boat has no cracks or anything around the transom and the floor in the rear is solid it is only soft under the passenger seat. I'm about to pull up the whole floor and stringers and replace it all then fiber glass over it. (I want one of those nice modern fiberglass floors with snap in carpet). I'm very worried about my transom. The boat takes on absolutely no water even if left in the lake for weeks, the reason I worry is when trimmed up the boat seems to tend to bob over water that is barely rough at best. Could a bad transom cause this? Or am I just being overly cautious about what my little runabout does on a large (for Tennessee) lake? Also has anyone dealt with old Four Winns? Are they bad to rot? I love the old girl and I've gotten three good years out of her but a bad transom might be a trip to the junk yard for her!
