About to clean the carbs on my yamaha 115hp

Guys, I am about to clean the carbs on my 2000 yamaha 115hp 2 stroke. What do I need to look for ? will I be able to see the low & high speed jets? Any tips/tricks on removal & installation?

Not that complicated. The best advice is to have a source of high pressure air. Using a can of carb cleaner (with all passages open for cleaning) spray and then blow ALL passages clear. B4 disassembly check the air/fuel adj screws. Screw in lightly snug noticing how far it takes to seat each one. Make a note so that you can reinstall them back the same way. Just be slow and not heavy handed.
After you have cleaned and remounted the carbs follow the link and sync procedure. Note: This procedure might not seem important but think how much slop there is on a carb stud when remounting the carbs.

thanks for info, do the linkages just pop off of the carbs? What is under the big brass screws on top of the carbs? is the sync & link easy to do?

The brass screws give access to about 3 passages into the carb. Sometimes these can be hard to remove. What I do is take a small screwdriver and put it on a side of the screw head slot and give it tap with a hammer in the direction that would loosen it. Note that there is a washer under this screw so don't drop it. I use a small wire to make sure these small holes are clear, then spray and blow out with HP air.
The rod attachment points snap onto each carb. Link and sync is easy, just follow your manual.

Just be careful with the gaskets as you remove the carb and disassemble it. Seldom is a carb. kit needed to clean and reassemble your carbs.

If you're having problems, it's likely that it's coming from the needle valves sticking and bad 90/10 gasoline. While you're at it, unscrew the clear plastic bowl and inspect your fuel filter closely. I would also suggest changing the rubber membrane in the fuel pump due to general aging. 90/10 gasoline attacks anything rubber when it breaks down.

When I reinstall the carbs, I don't adjust any of the linkage, etc. I try to keep everything as when I took off the carbs.

I think it took me about 1 hr. flat to pull the plugs, disassemble, clean and reinstall my carbs last time. It's just not that big of a job.
