Hey, Rodbolt, (or anyone else), can you give more details on how and where to cut the vent in the OMC thermostats?

I read the comments earlier on this thread about stats sticking, but can't get Sierra stats over here, so I've bought an OMC one. Before I fit it, from what Rodbolts says, I ought to cut a vent in it somewhere to stop it from sticking. I don't have a clue where or how, a diagram would be good :D

Thanks
Steve

The reason they stick is because the thermostat cavity does not drain if the tiny bleed hole gets plugged up. Not only that, but a plugged bleed hole causes an air lock and the cooling water cannot reach the thermostat elements and the motor overheats.

An easier way than drilling the thermostats is to file 2 small notches in each white plastic pressure relief valve, one at 12 o'clock and one at 6 o'clock. Use a small triangular file. That way there are both bleed holes and drain holes in the housing, and the thermostats won't stick.

Another way to eliminate drilling the t'stats is to use a duck-bill pliers and carefully bend the valve flange slightly to allow air to escape. Don't overdo it or the motor won't warm up enough at idle.
