Colorado, like some other states, have had instances of West Nile virus, carried by mosquitoes.

Lights started flashing, when I read a local news article on how the County Health Dept. wants to release "several tankfuls" of Gambusia (mosquito fish), into ponds that do not drain into other water sources. Gambusia are supposed to eat a considerable amount of mosquito larvae.

It is important that the pond do not drain elsewhere, since this fish can/will wreck native fisheries (their quote).

Is seem that it is entirely possible that these fish could somehow, either accidentally or purposely, be introduced into other local waters.

I am researching more on these fish and will contact the local newspaper and FWS.

Seems like a stupid idea getting more scary.

Marty
