ACCO Steermaster Mark II cable removal

I am rebuilding a pontoon boat with this steering system. I am in need of info on removal of cable from steering control mechanism in control pedestal. I can disconnect from motor, but jam nut will not fit thru holes in aluminum frame. Thanks.
