LA Times:

Under a business-as-usual scenario for greenhouse gas emissions, temperatures in California would increase by 7 to 10 degrees by 2070, and heat waves in Los Angeles would become six to eight times more frequent by the end of the century, according to a 2004 report by 19 scientists published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Sierra Nevada snowpack, important to supplying water to Southern California, would decline by 73% to 90%.

The scientists reported that without any effort to control emissions, the changes in California's natural resources would be extreme.

Nearly all alpine forests would be wiped out and the state's water supplies would be "fundamentally disrupted," they wrote. The changes would be "apparent before mid-century."

To think that man doesn't have any harmful effect at all on the planet defys common-sense.

Al Gore isn't any better of a spokesman on this than Rush Limbaugh. Anyone with a political axe to grind is the last one I'd listen to on environmental issues.
There are a lot of very dedicated brilliant scientists that have sincere objectives that are weighing in.
Most here would prefer to to beleive Rush than even consider for one moment what the experts say.
So the issue of global warming is irrelevant.

now there is a laugh.
can humans affect the global atmosphere? most definatly. is it all gonna collapse in 20 years? most likly not.
our two biggest threats are from a nuclear war,regardless of who starts or ends it, and a natural event from an astoroid or a volcanic eruption.
will it happen in my life span or my kids? most likly not but it will happen again.
an event like the asteroid that hit the Yucatan would most likly set the human race back to the stoneage anyway.
Humans are fairly adaptable even if we live in a very narrow band of living conditions.
an event like the last yellowstone would set most the world back to the stone age.
an event like Tambora in the 1800's would kill millions and seriously disrupt world economies.
so to me global warming is just another thing on a long list of things. do we need to better control emissions of various chemicals and gases? most assuredly. however it does not mean to immediatly go back to the stone age.
most of it is as badly hyped as Ernesto.

I work in this flipped up, environmental, snake oil business. I hate it. The reason I hate it is that every year there is something new that is killing us and something else that was killing us simply disappears as an issue. I call it "Emission Du Jour". Environmentalists must "find" more stuff that is killing us to fund their conferences. That's what they do for a living, charge people to come to their conferences. What I do for a living is make stuff that people can buy at their conferences and speak there so they can charge more because people want to hear my B.S. and look at my bitchen stuff (I generally keep my disdain for them secret).

With that said, I have seen the benefits of onerous legislation and enforcement as I have lived in LA my entire life. When I was young you could rarely see the mountains and when I played outdoors my lungs often hurt. That sucked. Much better today.

Soooo, my life experience is that there are definitely messes of ours to clean up, but the real threats are continually redefined and the methods of that definition are always suspect.

On www.freerepublic.com a conservative news discussion site I frequent, it has become common practice to reply to any bit of news whether good (unemployment down) or bad (hurricane hits Mexico city) as "Bush's fault". Since that is what the liberals instantly reply to any news. We laugh at them a lot over there.

All I have to do is look at a picture of earth from the space station to beleive that there is nothing we could posably do about global warming even if it is a threat and even if we wanted to do something about it.

An old phrase about "P*ssing on a forest fire", comes to mind.

Yes, but we have an option to study what's being said by those outside of politics, special interest groups and mainstream media. Somewhere is the truth and while it may not prove to be 100% conclusive, a layman could lay odds from what is learned.

QC, you're correct about situations constantly changing especially the natural environment.
One dynamic is that the US and Europe have been on top of most environmental issues since the late '60's and are ahead of the curve. The greatest hits on Earth since then have been developing nations. I fully expect burning 2/3's of several whole continents surely emits a lot of carbon into the atmosphere. Not to mention a soon to be mega-polluter China.
These will dwarf our's and Europes pollution soon if not already.

That pretty picture of Earth from space hardly depicts the one constant though. World population is likely to turn those waters and air pretty stale.
And it will lower the standard of living dramatically along with it.

Global warming or not, the human race will exaust enough resources into the land, the water and the atmosphere to substantially lower our standards of living. As world population grows it will be at an accelorated rate.

Just my take on it all after considering all sides and sticking my head out the window.

And in the end, neither "roll model's beliefs" are relevant to the individual. And us conservatives believe in the individual as opposed to the masses -- unless we are in church.

Dichlorofluoromethane or (R-12) refrigerant is one of the products that is on the global warming hit list.Hence the need stateside in semi recent years for a license to purchase.Why is it that just 130 miles from where I live across the border that they're blowing off can after can carrying the Dupont label like party favors charging vehicles on every corner..Mexico shares the same ozone layer doesn't it? And why did this stuff suddenly become such an expensive commodity but still widely in use after it was deemed so dangerous?Does 30 bucks a lb. negate its effect on the ozone layer?

I'm looking for the recent report, I have yet to find it online here -- but these nutjobs are now claiming the replacements for R-12 are actually worse for the environment than R-12 was. We best not let these morons take the replacements off the market too, or as a southern Floridian, Ill get extremely angry.
