I bought a secondhand Achilles SJ110 inflatable a couple of years ago. When applying for third party insurance I am always asked the age and have to say that I have no idea. Can anybody out there help me be more accurate please?

Re: Achilles inflatable age

Is there a small metal plate on the transom? Or perhaps an engraved hull number on the transom? The last 2 digits of this, I believe, signify the year.

Thanks for the help. Yes there is a plate and the last 2 digits are 87 which is consistent with the appearance of the boat.

Re: Achilles inflatable age

I believe the format for a boat’s 10-digit id is as follows FOR THE USA. Since Achilles are distributed here, and the US is the center of the universe, I wouldn’t be surprised if your hull id plate is the same in the UK. If your boat’s plate follows this format I would presume so. A=alpha, N-numeric.<br /><br />AAA NNNNN AN<br /><br />First 3 digits (alpha) is the code that identifies the manufacturer. There is a list if the 3-digit codes somewhere on the USCG’s website.<br /><br />The next 5 digits (numeric) are the boat’s serial number.<br /><br />The next 2 digits (one alpha, one numeric) are the hull build date. The alpha is the month, in sequence; i.e. ‘A’ = Jan, ‘B’ = Feb, ‘C’ = March. The numeric digit after the month code digit is the year. There is no decade designation. So, ‘K4’ is November 1984 or 1994 or 2004.<br /><br />If your id plate does not follow that format you may be able to check with a local boating club or boat retailer about the configuration of a UK id plate. If you do, please post back here and let us know the config for the UK id plate.
