Ack! Rust!

Hey all, I have some surface rust on my Mercruiser 3.0L w/ Alpha 1 inside the bilge area, just wondering if any of you have some good ideas on how to remove it? I was thinking a dremel tool with a wire bit/wheel would make short work of it. Any ideas? I was planning to get the areas in question good and clean, and then repaint it to prevent rust from reoccuring...

Thanks a bunch!

C17 - Hit it with a wire brush and follow with Naval Jelly which will chemically stop the rust. Follow with a good quality paint.

Bet ya run in saltwater! Clean and repaint. After use spray with WD40 or Boshield or ACF50. Got to love them saltwater engines. Marine mechanics bread and butter!

Salt water.. yup! Had a drain line pop off its quick-disconnect and fill the bilge with sea water... Before that the motor always seemed to get condensation on it at night/evening. It's very humid down here in Charleston, so condensation is commonplace on everything. Not a big deal on my car windshield, but on the boat motor...yes. Any ideas on how to prevent the condensation after I get all the rust cleaned up?

After you get everything cleaned up, try a Mercury product called Corrosion Guard. It comes in a spray can, and dries to a tough waxy coating that really helps prevent rust. It's been a lifesaver for my saltwater gear.
